Score 40+ >others[BC/MBC/SC/ST]All colleges available for students [includes Anna univ/Govt colleges]
Score 45+[ for general category]>All colleges available for students [includes Anna univ/Govt colleges]
Score around 40 [for General category]> Anna university/Govt colleges – not possible. But will surely get seats in top level private colleges such as Bannari,PSG,Kongu etc(Note that there will be heavy competition)
Score 38-45 [Others] > University depts of Anna univ Chennai / Govt colleges /Top level private colleges.
Score 36-38[Others] > May or May not get Anna Univ Chennai. But All Govt colleges + pvt colleges available.
Score 36-38 [General]>top Pvt colleges
Score 30-35[Others] > Govt colleges + Anna univ(other than Chennai)+top pvt college

So how can i choose course and college?
Many students have doubts regarding how to choose a course/college. Follow the guidelines given below.
GENERAL ADVICE FOR STUDENTS ATTENDING M.E COUNSELING
Students are confused about M.E counselling. We would like to give some general advice to candidates who are going to attend M.E counseling.
Counselling:
Similar to B.E counselling, M.E counselling will also take place in the same way. Please be sure that you have all eligible certificates to attend counselling. Don’t involve in producing duplicate documents. The required documents will be
Also have Cash amount that is to be deposited at the time of admission. Among the certificates that have been mentioned above, only the Hall ticket(Tancet) and Score card will be submitted. Others will be verified and returned.
Process:
The sessions for your score will be informed in all leading newspapers and also through counselling call letters. Students will be called for seats more than available. The seats will be allocated according to your Rank-score basis. So there always exist heavy competition.
What college will i get for XX.XX score?
This is the question that is asked by all students. Well what we had said to the commentators was based on the methodology that was adopted till the previous year. Comparing with that detail we are able to predict the approximate position[college/course] that will be available to the students. Some of the students may or may not get the colleges that we had proposed. All it depends on time.
So what to do…?
First, list the colleges for your preference.Be sure to choose the best colleges first.List out minimum of 3 colleges at least that will be possible for your score.Refer your friends, relatives, neighbours and collect data about colleges – how they are in teaching, job oppurtunities etc. Then sortlist them according to your wish. Then sortlist the course in them.Choose wisely.
Simple Guidelines
We have already mentioned some guidelines in the previous post. But still we want to explain in detail. To read it
Colleges:
Plan to select the best college rather than the best course. As already we mentioned "a simple course in a best reputed institutes is better than an excellent course in an average college"
Main advantage of choosing M.E degree is that you wll surely get a lecturer job any any engineering college. But to get a job in reputed institutions you must have studied in reputed institutes with high technical knowledge. So if you plan to go for "teaching profession" or to do Ph.D, then choose the college which is excellent in teaching with good teachers.
Course:
If you choose a different course that is not taken by most students, then you must have a clear idea of how you can excell in career. You must have the clear map of how to frame your future.
If you choose a regular course, you must have to excell in it.So what you have to do is that choose the best college & course for your score range.
Part-time courses : These category is best for job persons.Persons who will to do study along with job can choose this courses.
But the disadvantage of these courses is that these courses are not recognised as best as Fulltime courses. Also there is a disadvantage of long term (3 years for Part-time degree) & higher fees than the normal full-time students.
Job oppurtunities:
M.E is more refined & focused course than B.E.sometimes you can’t change your stream. So if you plan to change careers then leave the choice of doing M.E. B.E is better than M.E in this case. Sometimes M.E graduates just get a salary that is equivalent to B.E graduates. So consider wisely about doing M.E
Placement:
Many students ask us for which colleges give full placement to PG graduates. To a large disappointment, the answer is No. Even Anna university graduates dont get placement.Fact is that many companies focus only on B.E graduates.some colleges such as PSG shows 100% placement to PG graduates. But actually what happens is that only a few canditates gets placed in core companies, others attend software companies and get placed. So the colleges,to attract popularity they publish "100% placement".
Please dont expect placement for M.E.Its utter waste. If you do M.E focus on how you can excel in doing PG.
By now ,we hope we have given some useful guidelines to students. If you dont have a plan what will be the future for you, dont worry ,you still have time "its never late". start collecting data about colleges and courses – refer friends ,relatives and media such as internet etc.
TANCA 2011 CUT-OFF ANALYSIS
Top Score in TANCET 2011 is 74.59 ,which is higher than TANCET 2010[top score was 68.747.So We expect that the courses will be available "similar" to previous year cut-off marks.First we give you the

So how can i choose course and college?
Many students have doubts regarding how to choose a course/college. Follow the guidelines given below.
- First, be sure what course will be more interesting to you to read.Choose a minimum of 3 courses. So when during counseling when a choice of 2 when given you can specify exact college & course.
- Give importance to college alone as first.A normal course in a good reputed institute will be better than a good course in a normal institute.
- Choose the best course in best college for your score. Some courses will have heavy competition.Say Mechanical students will aim for Engineering design in 1)PSG else 2)Anna univ else 3)GCT.Getting a seat in PSG is too tough as all mechanical students will rush for the course. But unfortunately only top scorers will be able to pick them. Similarly each course students will have certain course as high interest like, ECE students will focus to pick up VLSI design or Embedded systems, civil students will have competition to pick up Environmental science and engineering etc.
- Be careful in choosing courses. See what feature the course will have in current and future.Say mechanical students rush to take M.E Aeronautical engineering, but think just a moment ,how many Aerospace companies are there in our country? 10? 20? No only a few ,ISRO,HAL. But these too are govt organizations which recruit B.E engineers. So plan a course that has wide scope.
- If you have plan to choose a different plan for you,be sure what future it has,how can you shine in that field etc.Say if you take M.Tech Food Technology, you must be knowing the complete map for your future. It is a must that you know where you are going.
- Remember that, M.E is a more converged degree. You will read only specified subjects in focus.Simply to understand. Mechanical engineering is a study dealing with Thermal + Engg.Design+Manufacturing/Production. These are the the three branches of Mech engg. Say if you choose M.E Thermal engg. now you can only move in Thermal engineering line.Aftr you finish M.E you cant enter again to Engg.Design or Prod.engg.So your course will streamline you.So be sure what you choose.
- Choose a wise course.Say many students tell that they will take M.E Industrial Safety engg. This course is available in 3 colleges K.S.R,Bharath Nikethan engg college,Mepco Schlenk engg college. This course will 100% surely get you a job, because all industries will surely have Safety dept.So there are good chances for employment. But look at the number of colleges.Only 3 ! So guess how the competition will be.Also you must think deeply.Choosing this course ensure good employment. But once you get this job,you will be employed as a safety engineer.Thats it! There cant be no improvement/promotion. Only those employees in regular operation such as in production line in a factory, due to heavy work shifts and effective management will achieve improvement.
